[PAPGAI] - Pakistan Association of Printing & Graphic Arts Industry.
In 1950 Karachi Printers Association was established,
which was later recognized in 1959 on all Pakistan
basis and named PAPGAI (Pakistan Association of
Printing and Graphic Arts Industry). The Association
had its head office in Lahore and zonal offices
in Karachi and Dhaka at that time. PAPGAI is recognized
by the Ministry of Commerce, Government of Pakistan
and affiliated with the Federation of Pakistan
Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI).
During the last five decades, PAPGAI has proved
to be the true representative body of the printing
industry. PAPGAI members are working hard for
promoting and watching the interests of the printing
and graphic arts industry.
The printing industry of Pakistan is the second
largest labor oriented industry in the country.
It is adequately serving the entire paper and
printing needs of the several industries including
multinational companies. The pharmaceutical and
other multinational companies working in Pakistan
are fully satisfied with the quality of services,
the paper and the printing industry is providing
to them. The printing and graphic arts industry
has proved its worth not only within the country
but also carved a reputable place worldwide and
supplying quality printed products to the Far
Eastern Countries, The Middle East, Europe and
as well The United States.
The local printing industry is becoming a reliable
source for printing quality labels for the garments
industry for the developed world. Taiwan industry
is getting the job of transfer labels done from
Pakistan. Pakistan industry has earned a reputation
in printing of aluminum processing for which the
most modern machines are being used by a large
number of companies in the country.
The printing and graphic arts industry has its
own strong export but it also plays a vital support
role in all the exports of Pakistan. Every item
of export from the country needs an aesthetically
designed and printed package that creates and
conveys an image of the country as well as the
product itself.
The PrintPak series of exhibitions organised
by PAPGAI is another devoted effort with regard
to promoting and supporting Pakistani paper, printing
and graphic arts industry worldwide.
PAPGAI is confident that PrintPak 2005 will open
new horizons for not only the local industry but
for international exhibitors too. That is why
the theme of this exhibition has been selected
as Explore The Horizons. |

| ACHIEVEMENTS |

| • |
Ever since its inception in 1959,
PAPGAI has been playing a leading role for
the betterment of the printing and graphic
arts industry. It was PAPGAI that prevailed
upon the government against the move of banning
import of second hand machinery. It was practically
proved to the government that second hand
machinery could provide good quality printing
due to the weather conditions in our country.
PAPGAI’s effort in this regard helped
the country’s youth in emerging as entrepreneurs
as they were able to afford setting up small
scale printing businesses. |
| |
| • |
PAPGAI‘s most significant contribution
to the printing and graphic arts industry
was the establishment of the Government PolyTechnic
Institute of Printing and Graphic Arts in
1973. This Institute is the only recognized
educational center that offers a three years
diploma, covering all aspects of printing
and graphic arts. It is equipped with laboratories,
hands-on workshops, a library and a hostel
for students. |

INGRIN is a Foundation of International Graphic
Training Co-operation, involved in establishing
printing and graphic training institute. PAPGAI
takes the credit for signing a memorandum
of understanding, in which PAPGAI and INGRIN
committed themselves to work together in setting
up training institutes in Pakistan. Such steps
have been taken to bring modern technical
education to our country and bridging the
gaps for specialized printing technicians
required to operate high tech printing machinery
to compete with competitive and high quality
international competition. |

In 2001 PAPGAI signed a Memorandum of Understanding
(MoU) with the Printing and Printing Equipment
Industries Association of China (PEIAC) for
the promotion of cooperation between the members
of PAPGAI and PEIAC. |
